Hollywood, from the outside, seems like a place where everyone smiles at each other, hugs on red carpets, and happily tells journalists what an “incredible team” they have. But once the cameras are turned off, it sometimes turns out that working with some stars is quite a challenge... Some demand special treatment, some absolutely hate being criticized, and some can turn an ordinary day on set into a real nightmare! (and yes, we are not exaggerating) And the most interesting part is that this is not only about famous women, as some sexists might think - there are plenty of male actors whose colleagues clearly breathed a sigh of relief after a project together...

Katherine Heigl: When Honesty On Set Turns Into A Reputation For Being “Difficult”

Katherine Heigl’s reputation for being “difficult” did not come out of nowhere - she really did speak publicly about the projects she worked on more than once. The biggest scandal happened after the actress starred in Knocked Up and The Ugly Truth, and then criticized Knocked Up, calling the movie sexist. But the real explosion came in 2008, when Heigl refused to submit herself for an Emmy nomination for Grey’s Anatomy, saying that the writers had not given her material that deserved a nomination. According to Vanity Fair, it was after these stories that the “difficult to work with” label became firmly attached to her in Hollywood.

@ instagram.com/katherineheigl

Later, Heigl admitted that some of her public comments had been a mistake, and even called herself an “immature jerk” for criticizing Knocked Up. But the Grey’s Anatomy story still looks more complicated: when showrunner Krista Vernoff later claimed that Heigl supposedly did not show up for the filming of her farewell episode, a source close to the actress denied it...so who are we supposed to believe now?

Gwyneth Paltrow: She Knows Herself That She Can Start Annoying People

Many people think that Gwyneth Paltrow has long existed in her own universe, where everything is about wellness, expensive candles, and unusual and even scandalous beauty products.... This image of a “Hollywood woman who knows how everyone should live” has been a reason for jokes about the fact that she is, to put it mildly, “not from this world” for years.

@elle.com

At the same time, Paltrow does not always look like someone who is constantly fighting with everyone: for example, in an old CBS interview, she said that it was practically impossible for her not to laugh while working with Mike Myers because he kept making her break character on set... However, as TMZ reported, she was rumored to have clashed with people at work on multiple occasions. Against that backdrop, her image as a diva with a “magic” candle looks like pure hypocrisy...

Kanye West: When Working With Him Becomes A Challenge Of Its Own

The media have repeatedly written that he has long seen himself not simply as a musician but as someone who needs to control music, fashion, and basically the entire creative process! TMZ has shown more than once just how much West likes to direct shoots himself: for example, in 2020, he personally directed a music video at his ranch in Wyoming, and the filming crew allegedly had a pretty hard time dealing with him...

@Getty Images

The problem for colleagues starts when this need for control turns into constant conflicts. Over the years, so many public scandals have surrounded West that his reputation as a colleague is now discussed separately from his music... TMZ has written about his numerous conflicts and complaints from former employees, while his relationships with other artists have regularly turned into separate scandals - and we have a feeling there will be many more of them!

Mariah Carey: A Shoot That Did Not Go According To Plan...

Mariah Carey is one of those celebs who can turn an ordinary working day into a story that journalists keep retelling for years. One of the most telling examples happened while filming the comedy The House. The singer was given a small role as herself but according to comedian Rob Huebel, who was involved in the movie, working with Carey turned out to be so difficult that her scenes did not make it into the final version at all.

@ instagram.com/mariahcarey

Huebel later said that Carey had quite a few ideas about how her part of the movie should look. At some point, the situation became so complicated that the entire episode was eventually dropped. And this is where it gets interesting: this was not simply a case of Mariah asking for better lighting or one more rehearsal. Her involvement apparently became so inconvenient for the production that it was easier to cut the whole thing. That said, this does not mean Carey has problems with everyone she works with - many musicians, on the contrary, have praised her involvement in the process and her incredible attention to detail for years.

Bradley Cooper: So Is He Difficult Or Just Private?

Bradley Cooper is a pretty interesting case: people sometimes call him cold or too private but it is much harder to find real stories about him driving his colleagues crazy on set. For example, when Cooper worked on The Words with his childhood friends Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal, they spent years trying to get the movie made and even joked about how much time they had spent together.

@Getty Images

At the same time, Cooper really is not the kind of person who will spend the whole day chatting on set and turning filming into a party. He is known for taking his work seriously and rarely puts his private life on display. So the stories about his “difficult personality” seem to have grown more from his image as a very private star than from any major conflicts. Even in an old Vanity Fair piece about Jennifer Lopez, directors and colleagues described Cooper more as a professional than as someone who was impossible to work with.

Catherine Zeta-Jones: “I Am Not Going To Apologize For Being Rich”

Catherine Zeta-Jones did not become known for major scandals on set but several of her comments about money and her lifestyle have definitely stuck with people, who then decided that she was a little...out of touch. The actress has never really tried to pretend she is the modest neighbor next door, and she has always spoken quite openly about expensive things, big houses, and the fact that she does not feel guilty about her wealth.

@ instagram.com/catherinezetajones

That is why she sometimes gets the image of a star who lives in her own luxurious world and considers everyone around her “beneath her.” So stars need to know how to behave not only with colleagues but also think about what they say in interviews. Because this is exactly the kind of case where one comment about money can create a reputation for years...

Will Smith: The Story With Janet Hubert That Lasted 27 Years!

Will Smith is definitely not one of the sweethearts, even though he seems like a very open person at first... His conflict with Janet Hubert, the original actress who played Aunt Viv on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, lasted almost three decades. Hubert left the show after three seasons and later openly said that Smith’s behavior and words had a major effect on her career.

@Getty Images

The most interesting part happened in 2020, when they finally sat down and talked for the first time in 27 years during a special episode celebrating the show’s 30th anniversary. Hubert explained that she was pregnant at the time, was in a difficult marriage, and was going through a serious personal crisis, while Smith admitted that he did not understand what she was going through back then and made the situation on set even harder. She also told him that after their conflict, she was given the Hollywood label of a “difficult” woman, which seriously damaged her career. In the end, they both apologized to each other and finally put the whole story behind them.

Jennifer Lopez: Even In 2001, She Already Had A Whole Team Around Her

When Jennifer Lopez was filming Enough, Vanity Fair went directly to the set and described her working life in quite a lot of detail. The actress was constantly surrounded by friends, assistants, a bodyguard, and other members of her team. The magazine even joked about the whole “chorus” of friends and assistants who followed Lopez practically everywhere.

@Getty Images

But on the other hand - director Adam Shankman told Vanity Fair directly that Lopez was not difficult to work with at all and called her a “diva in a good way.” Sony Music chief Tommy Mottola even said that, among stars of her level, Lopez was one of the least problematic.

Jay-Z: When An Argument Over One Line Almost Removed The Entire Verse

Jay-Z has a more interesting story than simply being described as “too businesslike.” It involves Kanye West and their song Jail. While working on the track, the two got into an argument over one line in Jay-Z’s verse. Instead of endlessly discussing the lyrics, Jay-Z suggested a simple solution: if Kanye did not like the line, he could remove his entire verse.

@Getty Images

In the end, the verse stayed, and the song was released with that version. And this actually says quite a lot about Jay-Z’s style: even when he is working with someone close to him, he is ready to deal with the problem very directly - you like my version or you do not, so let’s just choose one option. Some people would call that professionalism, while others might find such a person unpleasant...but let’s not forget that for celebs, their career and business come first, and everything else comes second...

Beyoncé: Ten New Songs In Three Days - And Nobody Slept!

Beyoncé has one very telling story that makes it easy to understand why working around her can be difficult. During the Mrs. Carter Show World Tour, the singer decided to seriously change the program right before the shows in Glasgow. Ten new songs were added to the show in just three days, other numbers had to be cut or turned into medleys, and the team was practically working nonstop.

@ instagram.com/beyonce

The Guardian later spoke to her creative director Todd Tourso, who openly called Beyoncé “relentless” when it came to perfection. While an ordinary artist might say, “Okay, the show is already ready, let’s leave it as it is,” Beyoncé decided to completely rework it at the last minute. The team rehearsed at night, while the singer herself continued working on choreography and material after the shows...

James Cameron: You Better Not Relax On His Sets!

James Cameron has had a reputation as a very tough director for years. And there are real stories behind it. During the filming of True Lies, Bill Paxton talked about how Cameron spoke to him very harshly over the radio. The director could yell at the actor right in the middle of work if he did not like something.

@Wikipedia

But Paxton did not seem like someone who hated Cameron. On the contrary, he told these stories with humor and worked with him several more times afterward. Cameron is also known for making his team reshoot scenes if he is not happy with the result. His demands were just as high during Titanic and Avatar. So some colleagues respect this approach, while others probably just want the filming day to end as quickly as possible.

Justin Bieber: First He Became A Star, And Only Later Learned How To Control Himself..

Justin Bieber became famous when he was still a teenager. And along with millions of fans, he very quickly developed problems with his behavior. While other teenagers were going to school, Bieber was traveling around the world, performing in huge venues, and constantly living in front of cameras. And he did not always behave the way adults expected him to.

@Getty Images

During those years, Bieber regularly made the news because of different scandals and strange behavior. Later, he himself talked about using drugs, struggling with his enormous fame, and often not understanding how he was supposed to behave. In an interview with Vogue, he spoke openly with Hailey Bieber about that period and about trying to change his life. So it would be unfair to consider him the same person today. But old stories still affect his reputation.

Christian Bale: His Famous Fight Right In The Middle Of Filming

Christian Bale has one story that Hollywood definitely will not forget. During the filming of Terminator Salvation in 2008, the actor became extremely angry with cinematographer Shane Hurlbut. Hurlbut came too close to Bale during a scene, and the actor started yelling at him and swearing right there on set.

@getty

The most interesting part is that a recording of the argument later appeared online and became a huge sensation. Bale later admitted that he had behaved terribly and publicly apologized. He explained that he had become too deeply involved in his work but admitted that it was not an excuse. He and the cinematographer also made up pretty quickly. So it would be difficult to call Bale someone who constantly causes scandals but this one very public incident definitely left a mark on his reputation.

Bill Murray: You Never Know Which Version Of Him You’ll Get Today

Bill Murray has long had a reputation as someone who can cause drama on a film set and from whom you can expect practically anything. Over the years, he has clashed with Harold Ramis, Anjelica Huston, Lucy Liu, and other colleagues. Sometimes these stories looked like ordinary creative disagreements, and sometimes things went much further.

@Mike Marsland / WireImage

After filming What About Bob? in 1991, Murray’s costar Richard Dreyfuss even called him an “Irish drunken bully” when talking about his behavior during production. At the same time, Murray remains one of the most in-demand comedy actors of his generation and has continued working with directors and actors for decades. So his story is less about someone who is impossible to work with altogether, and more about the fact that you never know which version of Bill Murray is going to show up on set this time...

Edward Norton: When An Actor Wants To Change Everything Himself

Edward Norton became famous not only for his strong performances but also for wanting to be actively involved in creating his movies. Sometimes this led to real conflicts. One of the most famous cases happened after the filming of American History X.

@Getty Images

Director Tony Kaye prepared his own version of the movie but Norton became heavily involved in the editing process afterward. In the end, audiences saw a version that was very different from what the director wanted. This led to a serious conflict between them. A similar story happened with The Incredible Hulk - Norton took part in rewriting the script, and his version of the material caused disagreements with Marvel. Norton was not simply looking for a fight - he really cares about how a movie should turn out. But for a director and a studio, this kind of approach can sometimes be a real headache.

Shia LaBeouf: “Just Don’t Put Me On The Same Set With Him!”

Shia LaBeouf’s reputation as a difficult colleague did not come from one random article. There really have been a lot of stories about him. For example, while working on Megalopolis, director Francis Ford Coppola talked about the difficulties of working with the actor. At one point, he even called LaBeouf a real problem on set, although he later apologized and praised his talent again.

@ RB/Bauer-Griffin

There is another telling story... The documentary Slauson Rec showed LaBeouf working on a theater project, and it included real conflicts with other people involved. The actor yelled, argued, and reacted very emotionally to what was happening. LaBeouf later did not try to completely dismiss those moments and admitted that he had often behaved badly in the past. So in his case, the stories about his difficult personality did not come out of nowhere.

Miles Teller: One Magazine Made Him Look Like A Total Jerk

Miles Teller got his reputation as an “overconfident guy” after a very specific Esquire article in 2015. The journalist met him at a restaurant in Atlanta and wrote from the very beginning that she was trying to figure out whether he was a “jerk” or not. And the article really did contain quite a few strange moments. For example, when Teller was offered a piece of pork, he asked the journalist to cut it for him. Then he joked that he supposedly did not have any back teeth. When she played along with his joke, he replied, “Are you bullying me right now?” - and the author described this as part of his habit of constantly provoking the person he was talking to.

@tmz.com

There were other moments too. ..During the conversation, Teller showed a photo of his muscles, swore a lot, said that he considered himself more attractive than the public probably thought, and spoke quite harshly about some things. At one point, he talked about an old friend he stopped speaking to after a car accident... Teller believed that his friend was trying to make him feel guilty over insurance payments, so he eventually told him to get lost. That sounds pretty awful!

Jimmy Fallon: When A “Signature” Smile Hides A Completely Different Person...

Jimmy Fallon has looked on screen for years like a person who is simply physically incapable of being mean - he is constantly smiling, joking, and hugging his guests. But in 2023, Rolling Stone published a major report in which current and former employees of The Tonight Show described a completely different side of working with the host. They described the backstage environment of the show as an “ugly work environment” and a “pretty gloomy atmosphere,” and some admitted that they were afraid of Fallon’s outbursts. According to employees, they could be belittled and intimidated by their bosses, including Fallon himself. Seven people separately told journalists that working on the show negatively affected their mental health because of the alleged mistreatment...

@NBC / Via YouTube.com

After the report was published, Fallon reportedly apologized to employees during a Zoom call. Representatives for the host himself did not comment on the story but NBC released a statement emphasizing that a respectful work environment is a priority for the company.

Mike Myers: The Star Who Lived In His Own World On Set

Mike Myers, the star of Austin Powers, has long had a reputation as someone who can be difficult to work with. And one of the most specific stories is connected to the filming of The Cat in the Hat. Actress Amy Hill told the AV Club that working with Myers was a “horrible, nightmarish experience” for her. According to her, the actor kept himself separate from the rest of the cast and crew, mostly stayed with his own people, and barely tried to get to know his colleagues.

@getty

Hill even shared a pretty strange detail. According to her, there was constantly a person next to Myers who kept his chocolate in a little container for him. Whenever Myers wanted something sweet, that person would simply run over and give him a piece of chocolate. “That’s what divas are like, I guess. Or people who need therapy,” the actress joked. And after a story like that, it is pretty easy to imagine why Myers may have developed a reputation as someone who operates on his own rules on a film set...

Teri Hatcher: When Conflicts With Costars Stay Even After The Series Ends

Teri Hatcher’s relationship with the cast of Desperate Housewives apparently wasn’t only complicated in front of the cameras. The actress allegedly clashed with Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, and Nicollette Sheridan. One of the most famous stories was the scandal during a 2005 Vanity Fair photoshoot. According to TMZ, Hatcher wanted to be in the center of the group photo, which caused additional tension between the actresses. Sheridan later even called Hatcher “the meanest woman in the world.”

@Bruce Glikas / WireImage

But the story didn’t end there! After the series ended in 2012, the cast and crew allegedly prepared farewell gifts for each other but Hatcher’s name was missing from the gifts...and that says a lot, doesn’t it?

Thomas Gibson: One Argument That Ended With Him Getting Fired

For Thomas Gibson, the story with Criminal Minds ended much more seriously than just an unpleasant conversation with a colleague. The actor was first suspended from work and then fired after a conflict with writer and producer Virgil Williams. During an argument over the show’s creative direction, Gibson kicked the writer in the shin.

@David Livingston / Getty Images

It wasn’t the first incident like that. Deadline also reported that back in 2010, Gibson got into a conflict with an assistant director and shoved him, after which he had to attend anger management classes. In the end, the actor lost one of his most famous roles, and the story became one of the most dramatic examples of how a backstage conflict can actually end someone’s career on a popular series.

Chevy Chase: The Man Who Managed To Fight With So Many People

Chevy Chase was one of the original members of Saturday Night Live and became a huge comedy star but his reputation as someone who is difficult to work with is definitely not new. The actor was accused of rude behavior toward his costars, and at one point he even slapped actress Cheri Oteri on the back of the head. As a result, SNL creator Lorne Michaels reportedly banned Chase from hosting the show again. Many years later, Chase continued to end up in similar stories. In 2018, Pete Davidson spoke extremely harshly about him on Howard Stern’s show, calling him a complete douchebag and saying that he couldn’t stand him. Davidson also accused Chase of racist behavior...well, things got heated!

@NBC / Courtesy Everett Collection

And as People wrote, there was also reportedly an incident while filming the fourth season of Community in 2012. Chase allegedly used a racial slur during an argument with showrunner Dan Harmon, after which production had to be paused. Donald Glover later told The New Yorker that Chase deliberately tried to throw him off during filming by making racist jokes between takes...

Bruce Willis: Does Fame Change The Way You Treat Your Costars?

While working on Moonlighting in the late ’80s, Bruce Willis had a difficult relationship with his costar Cybill Shepherd. The show’s producer Jay Daniel told Moonlighting Strangers Fanzine that as Willis became more famous, working with him became increasingly difficult. At the beginning of his career, according to Daniel, Bruce was just a regular guy who was friendly with the crew and grateful for the work. But then everything allegedly changed...Willis gradually realized that he was becoming a major movie star and wanted to move on. At the same time, his strained relationship with Shepherd also affected the atmosphere on set. The producer said that sometimes it made working there a very unpleasant experience. It’s a pretty classic Hollywood story - someone becomes a huge star, and along with that, the way they treat their old colleagues changes...

@ABC / Courtesy Everett Collection

But an even harsher assessment of Willis came from director Kevin Smith, who worked with him in 2009 on Cop Out. Smith later called the experience “soul-crushing” and said that working with the actor was extremely difficult. Years later, however, the director apologized to Willis after the actor announced his retirement from acting following his diagnosis of aphasia, a condition that can affect speech and language comprehension.

Julia Roberts: When Even Steven Spielberg Calls Filming Difficult

Julia Roberts got one of the most unusual roles of her career when she played Tinker Bell in Steven Spielberg’s Hook in 1991. But the filming itself apparently did not go as smoothly as you might expect from a project of that level. Spielberg later said that Roberts was difficult to work with. At the time, the actress was going through a breakup with her then-fiancé Kiefer Sutherland, and according to the director, it affected her behavior on set. The crew even gave her the nickname “Tinkerhell” - a play on the name of her character, Tinker Bell.

@Getty Images

When Spielberg was asked about working with Roberts, he admitted that it was an “unfortunate time” for them to work together but he also emphasized that he considered her a really good actress. So even this story doesn’t have a simple Hollywood ending in which “she was terrible” - rather, it was an unfortunate period that stayed in the memory of the people on the set.

Lea Michele: When Costars Spoke Up Only After The Series Ended

The story with Lea Michele became especially loud because several of her former costars eventually publicly talked about the actress’s behavior while working on Glee. It all started in 2020 after Michele posted a tweet about the death of George Floyd. In response, her former Glee costar Samantha Ware accused the actress of “traumatic microaggressions” and said that working with Michele had turned her experience on the show into a living hell.

@ WireImage

After that, other people who had worked with the actress also began talking about their experiences. Their stories involved mistreatment, pressure, and bullying on set. Heather Morris, who also appeared on Glee, later wrote that Michele was indeed very unpleasant to work with. Michele herself later posted a statement apologizing for “any pain” her behavior may have caused.

Lindsay Lohan: When Scandals Start Getting In The Way Of A Career

Once upon a time, Lindsay Lohan seemed like one of the most promising young actresses in Hollywood. The Parent Trap, Freaky Friday, Mean Girls - at one point it seemed like she had a huge career ahead of her. But then everything suddenly went in the wrong direction. Lohan went through a very difficult period involving alcohol and drugs, drunk-driving charges, problems in her relationships with her mother and father, and constant scandals in the press. The tabloids followed her downward spiral for years, and afterward the actress had to basically prove all over again that she was capable of working normally on a film set.

@imbd.com

And...it turned out to be quite difficult. Against the background of all these stories, another reputation appeared around Lohan in Hollywood - that she was supposedly very difficult to work with. People from film sets and producers reportedly talked about her temper, lateness, and strange demands. On some projects, according to reports, she could arrive very late to set or not show up at all, forcing the entire crew to change their plans. And when something like that happens repeatedly, it is hardly surprising that an actress develops a reputation as someone it is better not to work with...

Madonna: When Control On Set And Behind The Scenes Becomes Too Much

Well, what else could you expect from the real Material Girl? Madonna has remained one of the most famous pop stars in the world for decades and, despite her age, continues to work as if she still has something to prove to everyone. And that is exactly why she has always had almost total control over her career.

@Getty Images

According to people who have worked with her, Madonna takes her schedule, plans, and expectations very seriously and can be extremely demanding with her personal assistants to make sure everything happens exactly the way she wants. If someone goes against her plans or does something differently from what she expected, the atmosphere can change instantly. At the same time, many people who have worked with Madonna have admitted that she is incredibly hardworking and takes her career very seriously. And that, of course, deserves respect. But there is a big difference between having high standards and treating people as if they are beneath you...

Val Kilmer: When An Actor Wants Everything To Be Done His Way

Val Kilmer developed a reputation as a very demanding actor early in his career. According to people who worked with him, he could walk off the set if he was unhappy with what was happening, and he sometimes made some pretty unusual demands of the crew. Kilmer seemed destined for major heroic roles but in almost every major project, sooner or later, some kind of story involving him would appear.

@Getty Images

One of the most famous conflicts happened during the filming of Batman Forever. Director Joel Schumacher and Kilmer got into such a serious argument that their conflict was eventually discussed not only on set but also in the press. According to Schumacher, the actor constantly insisted on his own plans and ideas and wanted everyone around him to follow them. For a director responsible for the entire movie, that kind of behavior can quickly turn into a real battle for control. And it was stories like these that shaped Kilmer’s reputation over the years as an actor who could be incredibly talented but could also drive practically any film crew completely crazy...

Sharon Stone: When Ambition Turns Into Demands On Everyone Around You

Sharon Stone has never looked like someone who plans to apologize for her ambitions. The actress has always taken her career very seriously and wanted recognition for her work. For her, it was important not simply to appear in a good movie but to make sure people really noticed her, appreciated her, and recognized her as one of the best.

@Getty Images

The problem began when those high standards turned into demands on the people around her. Stone has been described more than once as a very demanding and bossy actress who can react sharply when someone does not meet her expectations of how everything should be done. Of course, wanting big roles, awards, and recognition is completely normal. But when someone starts putting other people down or yelling at those who cannot keep up with their perfect plan, the situation looks very different. So behind every next Sharon Stone movie, according to these stories, there may be much more blood, sweat, and tears than the audience will ever see on screen...

Russell Crowe: When You Can Argue About Practically Anything

There are people who simply cannot stand Russell Crowe, and after hearing stories about his behavior on set, it becomes pretty easy to understand where that reputation may have come from. Crowe has long been known for having a difficult personality and for not having the calmest attitude toward people who disagree with him. On social media, he has also gotten into public arguments and criticized other people, especially when their opinions differed from his own.

@imbd.com

But on a film set, all of this can become even more serious. Crowe has reportedly gotten into verbal conflicts with other actors, directors, screenwriters, and producers more than once. And he can apparently argue about practically anything - the script, the costumes, his role, the behavior of his costars, or even how a particular scene should look. As TMZ wrote, he has also allegedly had problems with alcohol, and after drinking, conflicts and impulsive decisions could naturally become even more serious. In the end, Russell Crowe created a reputation for himself as someone it is better to be prepared to deal with...

Shannen Doherty: Lateness, Conflicts, And Getting Fired From A Series

Shannen Doherty had a reputation as one of the most difficult actresses back in the Beverly Hills, 90210 days, and there is a pretty specific reason for it. In recent years, the actress herself admitted that her constant lateness to set really did become a serious problem for the entire crew. In 2024, Doherty explained that she was going through serious personal problems at the time and because of that could not consistently arrive at work on time. She herself said that when everyone else shows up on time and waits for one person, it is truly terrible for the entire crew.

@Getty Images

But lateness was far from the only reason for the tension. Jennie Garth said that she and Doherty constantly clashed because of their personalities and once got into such a serious argument that the conflict almost turned physical. Later, however, Garth admitted that they were both very young and simply trying to figure themselves out while dealing with their sudden fame. Over time, the relationship between the two actresses became much better. In the end, Doherty left Beverly Hills, 90210 after the fourth season, and a similar story later happened with Charmed. In the case of the second series, Doherty and Holly Marie Combs themselves said that the actress was fired after a tense conflict with Alyssa Milano.

Steven Seagal: Even Saturday Night Live Couldn’t Survive Him

If you want a truly legendary story about a star who was difficult to work with, Steven Seagal is practically perfect. In 1991, the actor came to host Saturday Night Live when he was at the peak of his popularity. And, judging by the memories of the people involved with the show, the episode turned out to be so problematic that it is still remembered as one of the worst episodes in the program’s history. According to David Spade, Seagal did not want to agree with the show’s plan at all and tried to change what the writers had prepared for him. Norm Macdonald later called him the worst host in SNL history and explained it very simply - he was “not a very nice person.”

@NBC / Getty Images

But the most interesting situation involved the characters Hans and Franz. Seagal allegedly worried that if they beat him in the sketch, it would make his invincible action-hero image look bad. So he even wanted to be the one beating up those characters. Seagal also tried to write sketches himself, and one of the final segments turned into such a strange fight that even show creator Lorne Michaels was unhappy with the result. The episode was barely used in reruns afterward, and Seagal was never allowed to host the program again.

Terrence Howard: When An Argument On Empire Turns Into A Real Outburst

Terrence Howard has also developed a reputation as an actor with a pretty difficult personality, and it did not come out of nowhere. The actor has spoken publicly in the past about having problems with how he dealt with anger and conflicts, admitting that he made mistakes when he was younger and later changed a lot.

@FOX / Getty Images

But one of the most dramatic incidents happened while filming Empire. In 2019, after Jussie Smollett was arrested over allegations that he had staged an attack, a serious conflict reportedly took place on set. According to TMZ, Howard was so angry about what was happening that he spent most of the day inside his trailer. Later, he allegedly confronted Smollett and demanded that he admit what had happened. The conversation turned into shouting, and the tension on set became so intense that the entire day turned into complete chaos. At the same time, it is interesting that Howard is certainly not at war with all of his costars. Taraji P. Henson, for example, has talked for years about their close friendship and has called him her friend. She seemed to view their constant arguments more as part of the particular chemistry between them...

Tom Hardy: When An Actor Can Disappear Into His Trailer For Hours

Tom Hardy has long had a reputation as an actor who can be difficult to work with but in 2026, this story came back into the spotlight because of the filming of the series MobLand. Reports appeared in the press claiming that the actor had allegedly been constantly clashing with producers and other crew members, arriving late to set and sometimes staying in his trailer for hours, leaving the production waiting for him. Some reports even claimed that Hardy was supposedly going to be fired from the series, although those reports were later denied.

@Paramount/ Courtesy Everett Collection

And this is especially interesting because stories like this have appeared around Hardy more than once. During the production of Mad Max: Fury Road, the actor reportedly had serious conflicts with director George Miller, while his difficult relationship with his costars and his working style on The Revenant were also discussed in the press. At the same time, Hardy remains one of the most in-demand actors of his generation…

Wesley Snipes: Even The Director Couldn’t Get Through To Him!

Wesley Snipes, the star of the Blade movies, also reportedly “stood out” for his less-than-impressive behavior, to put it mildly. As Us Weekly wrote, during the filming of Blade: Trinity in 2004, according to comedian Patton Oswalt, who also appeared in the movie, Snipes could stay in his trailer for long periods without coming out, and he communicated with director David Goyer through sticky notes signed with his character’s name - Blade. Oswalt also claimed that the actor and director had such a serious conflict that things nearly turned physical. Snipes himself later disputed some of these stories...

@New Line Cinema / Courtesy Everett Collection

Goyer later called working on the movie the worst professional experience of his career. According to Oswalt, the tension was so intense that some scenes had to be filmed with a stand-in for Snipes when the actor himself wasn’t on set. Oh, wow...

Jared Leto: When An Actor’s Method Starts Scaring His Co-Stars

Jared Leto is known for immersing himself deeply in his characters but his approach to acting while preparing to play the Joker in Suicide Squad sparked plenty of discussion. In 2016, Will Smith said that Leto sent his co-stars unusual gifts in the name of his character. For example, Margot Robbie received a box containing a live rat, and according to Smith, other cast members also experienced some unexpected antics from the actor. Apparently, Leto saw this as a way to keep the Joker persona alive outside the filming process but not everyone appreciated his method.

Smith spoke about these incidents with a mixture of surprise and humor but stories like these naturally made people wonder where an actor’s method ends and ordinary discomfort for everyone else begins. Leto has repeatedly defended his approach to the role, emphasizing that many stories about his gifts and behavior were exaggerated. Who do you believe?

Dustin Hoffman: Talent Is Great but What About Basic Human Decency?

For decades, Dustin Hoffman was considered one of the most talented actors of his generation but some stories about his behavior on set show just how far he could go to get the emotion he wanted. During the filming of Kramer vs. Kramer in 1979, Hoffman reportedly used methods that many people today would consider completely unacceptable, according to published recollections and accounts from people involved in the production. In particular, he allegedly slapped Meryl Streep in the face without warning before one scene to get a more natural reaction... There were also reports that he provoked the actress with personal remarks, bringing up painful events from her life.

As the Daily Mail reported, Streep later said that Hoffman allegedly used her personal experiences while working on scenes without warning her in advance. For him, this may have been part of a method designed to make the performances feel as realistic as possible on screen but for Meryl, it was extremely unpleasant...

Alec Baldwin: His Outbursts Turned Filming Into An Ordeal

Alec Baldwin has found himself at the center of stories about his difficult behavior more than once... One of them involved The Marrying Man, which was filmed in the early 1990s. As People reported, crew members said Baldwin could lose his temper over technical problems, throw mobile phones against the wall, and once even throw a director’s chair that nearly hit an electrician. One crew member remembered the experience so badly that they said they wouldn’t work with Baldwin again even for a million dollars!

There were also reportedly difficulties because of Baldwin’s relationship with Kim Basinger, who was also starring in the film. According to sources cited by the publication, the actress insisted on script changes and was unhappy with the cinematographer’s work, while production was regularly delayed because of additional demands... We’ll tell you more about that now!

Kim Basinger: When A Star Wants To Rewrite The Rules Right On Set

Kim Basinger has long been known for her memorable roles but according to crew members, working with her on The Marrying Man in the early 1990s was far from easy. People reported that Basinger could insist on changes to the dialogue and criticize the cinematographer’s work, even pushing for him to be replaced. Sources also claimed that the crew sometimes had to wait because of the actress’s demands, causing the production process to drag on. For a film that was already facing difficulties, this became another source of tension.

As a result, filming The Marrying Man became a real nightmare for many people... Of course, being demanding doesn’t automatically make an actor difficult but when script changes, arguments, and personal relationships start affecting the work of dozens of people, it’s hard to imagine anyone being happy with the situation!

Ellen DeGeneres: Does Her Friendly Image Match What Happens Behind The Scenes?

For years, Ellen DeGeneres built her career around the image of a cheerful, friendly host who greeted guests with a smile and ended conversations with her signature phrase, “Be Kind.” But in 2020, a scandal erupted around her show following reports about an allegedly toxic workplace atmosphere. The Los Angeles Times reported that producers began investigating complaints from employees who described intimidation, racism, and inappropriate treatment behind the scenes.

The story became especially explosive because of the contrast between DeGeneres’s public image and the accounts of people who worked on the show. The host later apologized to her employees, acknowledging that she had learned about problems that should never have existed on her show....

Charlie Sheen: When Scandals Become A Problem For The Entire Team

Charlie Sheen was one of the biggest stars of the sitcom Two and a Half Men but in 2011, his relationship with the show’s management completely fell apart. Amid health problems, treatment, and public disputes, the actor began giving interviews in which he harshly criticized CBS, Warner Bros., and the show’s creator, Chuck Lorre. Production was halted, and Warner Bros. later officially terminated Sheen’s contract. In a letter to his lawyer, the studio cited the actor’s behavior, which it believed was interfering with the work and undermining the cooperation needed to produce the show.

@CBS

The story became especially explosive because Sheen didn’t limit himself to behind-the-scenes conflicts - he took them straight to the public! The actor made harsh statements about Lorre, mocked the people in charge, and turned a workplace dispute into a full-scale media war. The show continued without him, and Ashton Kutcher was brought in to take over the leading role.

Mickey Rourke: His On-Set Behavior Sparks Another Scandal!

Mickey Rourke has long been known for his difficult reputation but in April 2025, another scandal involving the actor erupted after his co-star Bella Thorne spoke about their work together on the film Girl. The actress said that working with Rourke had been one of her worst experiences. According to her, an incident involving a metal tool occurred during filming, leaving her with painful injuries and making her feel humiliated... Thorne described what happened as unacceptable workplace behavior.

Rourke’s representative, in turn, categorically denied that the actor had deliberately behaved inappropriately and stated that he had been unaware of Thorne’s discomfort at the time of filming...

Jeremy Strong: When An Actor’s Method Becomes A Challenge For The Entire Team

Jeremy Strong became famous for playing Kendall Roy in the series Succession but away from the screen, people discussed not only his acting but also his behavior... Strong is known for trying to immerse himself completely in a character and sometimes maintaining the character’s mindset even outside the filming process. As The New Yorker wrote, Brian Cox, who played his on-screen father, said he worried about how hard Strong pushed himself to work and how roughly he could allegedly speak to co-stars even after the director called “cut,” supposedly because he was still in character...

@Macall B. Polay / HBO

Jeremy himself later said that he was hurt by some of the conclusions drawn in The New Yorker article and that he never intended to offend anyone... So this is more a story about how dedication to a profession can complicate relationships with co-stars than about someone being a genuinely bad person...

Ryan Reynolds: Maybe He Wasn’t Such An Easy Guy To Work With Early In His Career?

Today, Ryan Reynolds is associated with lighthearted humor, self-deprecation, and the image of a man who can turn almost any interview into a stand-up routine! But in February 2025, actor Matthew Lawrence recalled working with him on the film Boltneck, which was shot in the late 1990s. On the Brotherly Love podcast, Lawrence claimed that the crew had problems with the young Reynolds’s behavior: according to him, Reynolds argued with producers and the director over creative differences and sometimes walked off set to do things his own way.

@20th Century Fox / Courtesy Everett Collection

There haven’t really been similar claims from many other colleagues since then. But the contrast is amusing: even a future comedy star whom audiences came to love for his humor could apparently seem unpleasant to his colleagues at the beginning of his career...

Kiefer Sutherland: Working With Him Was So Bad That A Co-Star Considered Leaving Acting

In 2010, Freddie Prinze Jr. worked alongside Kiefer Sutherland on the eighth season of the series 24. Four years later, he spoke surprisingly harshly about the experience... In an interview with ABC News, the actor said he hated practically every minute of working on the project and described Sutherland as extremely unprofessional. Prinze also said that the experience left him so disillusioned with the profession that he seriously considered leaving acting altogether.

However, there is another side to this story. Sutherland’s representative responded that the actor had enjoyed working with Prinze and was hearing about his complaints for the first time several years later. In addition, other colleagues from 24 publicly defended Sutherland and described him as a considerate scene partner...

Megan Fox: She Compared The Director To Hitler And Lost Her Role In A Major Franchise!

While the director was accusing Megan of being difficult, she wasn’t about to stay silent! During the filming of the first Transformers movies, Megan Fox made no secret of the fact that working with director Michael Bay had been a difficult experience for her. In a 2009 interview with Wonderland magazine, the actress compared his behavior on set to Hitler’s and called him a nightmare to work with. At the same time, she added that Bay could seem like a completely different person away from filming.

@Paramount Pictures / Courtesy Everett Collection

In 2011, Bay confirmed that Fox did not return for the third installment of the franchise following her controversial comments. According to him, producer Steven Spielberg demanded that the actress be fired after she compared the director to Hitler. Fox continued her career but the story cemented her image as a star who wasn’t afraid to openly clash with people who had power over her work. At the same time, her comments weren’t simply a random tantrum: the actress herself described the set as an extremely tense environment...

Sean Young: The Role That Was Almost Cut From The Movie!

Sean Young, known for films such as Blade Runner and Wall Street, found herself at the center of an unpleasant story while working on Oliver Stone’s 1987 drama. In his memoir, Michael Douglas recalled the tense atmosphere on the set of Wall Street and Young’s conflicts with the director. According to his version of events, the actress objected to a scene in which her character had practically no dialogue, after which Stone fired her, and most of the footage that had already been shot was eventually removed from the film.

@20th Century Fox / Courtesy Everett Collection

Douglas recalled how Charlie Sheen stuck an insulting note to Young’s back, adding to the tension between the actress and some members of the crew. Douglas claimed that he himself removed the note but someone from the production team later told Young what had happened...

James Franco: A Friendship With Seth Rogen That Ended Along With Their Collaborations

For years, James Franco and Seth Rogen worked together on Freaks and Geeks, Pineapple Express, and This Is the End, and their friendship seemed so natural that audiences came to think of them as real-life friends. But after several women accused Franco of sexual misconduct in 2018, their relationship changed. In June 2026, the Los Angeles Times reported that Rogen admitted they had not spoken in a long time and that he did not plan to work with his former co-star again.

@Columbia Pictures

Franco denied some of the allegations, and in 2021, he settled a civil lawsuit related to his former acting school. Rogen had previously said he was not going to defend his friend’s behavior and that he was sorry if his earlier jokes or public support of Franco had made anyone feel uncomfortable...

Iain Armitage: When A Young Star Can Have A Bit Of An Attitude!

Iain Armitage became famous as a child thanks to his role as Sheldon Cooper in the series Young Sheldon. But recently, people behind the scenes of the show once again discussed not only his talent but also rumors that the young actor could sometimes be difficult to work with. In a new book about the history of the series, released in October 2026, Armitage himself talked about filming and admitted that he wasn’t always perfect, even though he tried his best. At the same time, his co-stars emphasized that he had a huge responsibility placed on his shoulders: he landed the lead role at around eight years old, and he had to grow up literally on the set...

@Robert Voets / CBS

Annie Potts, who played Sheldon’s grandmother, said that the boy sometimes struggled to cope with the pressure and could be moody, while other colleagues noted that he matured over time and became much calmer. His on-screen sister, Raegan Revord, described their relationship as that of a real brother and sister - with the usual childhood arguments and making up...

Faye Dunaway: Outbursts, Scandals, And A Reputation As An Actress No One Dared To Challenge!

Faye Dunaway rose to fame thanks to films such as Bonnie and Clyde, Chinatown, and Network but behind the scenes, her name was repeatedly associated with stories about her extremely difficult personality. According to people who worked with the actress, she could be sharp-tongued, demanding, and quick-tempered, and disagreements on set sometimes turned into serious conflicts. Many of these stories emerged after the filming of Mommie Dearest in 1981, in which Dunaway played actress Joan Crawford. The film’s director, Frank Perry, and other members of the production team later recalled the tense atmosphere during filming.

@Paramount Pictures / Courtesy Everett Collection

According to director Roman Polanski, working with Dunaway on Chinatown in 1974 was a real challenge. He described the actress as extremely difficult to work with, while also acknowledging that she took her profession incredibly seriously. In 1988, Bette Davis publicly stated that Dunaway was one of the most unbearable co-stars she had ever worked with. Faye herself repeatedly disputed such characterizations, explaining that her demanding nature came from her desire to achieve the best possible results...
